Mom April woke me up at 3:30 this morning. She said something about starting the Christmas shopping, so I'm going to let her tell you what she did. By the way, this post is dedicated to Jill!
I woke up about 3:30 congested. I knew I wasn't going to get back to sleep any time soon so I decided to go ahead and get up. I had joked about getting to Kohl's when they opened at 4am and so that's what I did. Last year was the first time I'd ever gone shopping on the day after Thanksgiving, but we weren't up that early. I got to Kohl's at about 3:50am. The line went all the way across the building, but I couldn't see the end because it was somewhere in the darkness of the parking lot. I didn't see any reason to get out and stand in the cold and drizzle so I stayed in the car. Here's what it looked like out front.
At 3:55 they turned on the lights inside and opened the doors. It was about this time that the rain started coming down. I decided to stay in the car until the line got through. I walked through the doors at 4:14, definitely worth waiting in the car. I found what I was looking for then waited in the checkout line. I was out of there by 5:20am. Definitely a pleasant experience, nobody climbed over me to get at stuff, and I was trampled by running customers. After that I went to Garden Ridge where there was about 20 cars in the lot. Too bad I only needed one thing there. And finally I made my way to Wal-Mart. I hate going to Wal-Mart normally and this was a gazillion times worse. I couldn't find what I wanted, but i didn't really feel like standing the line to check out anyway. I stopped and picked up some Sonic for breakfast on the way, told Paul about the trip and was back in bed by 7:30am.
I'm glad I went because everyone should experience this craziness once, but I don't think I'll do it again, and definitely not by myself!

I am so proud of you for braving the crowds. That day, we always say why are we doing this, but the next Thanksgiving Day, we are searching the adds to see where we are headed to the next morning. I was a little disappointed this year, I didn't get to throw any elbows at anybody trying to grab the same thing. On the plus side though, I did see the cops take someone down for stealing at 5:02 a.m.
