Spring Bucket List Completed

Well, spring is over and I'm looking forward to tackling our summer bucket list, but here is how we did on the spring list.

1.Eat jellybeans. (We didn't get any jelly beans from the Easter Bunny, so we never did this, but we did eat Peeps.)
2.Pick strawberries. (05/07/2013)

3.Mix up a pitcher of margaritas. (05/03/2013)

4.Plant something green. (04/03/2013)

5.Visit a farmer's market.
6.Fly a kite. (04/09/2013)

7.Steam whole artichokes. (04/23/2013)

Homemade garlic butter

Logan loved the leaves (but wouldn't eat the heart).

8.Have a picnic in a park.
9.Bake cupcakes with pastel frosting. (04/16/2013)

10.Look for 4-leaf clovers. (Sophie and I did this while waiting for Logan.)
11.Jump in rain puddles. (04/02/2013)

12.Eat a ripe apricot. (I kept forgetting to buy some at the store.)
13.Get dirt under your nails. (04/09/2013)
I did some weeding and raking

14.Blow bubbles. (We actually blew bubbles several days while playing outside.)
15.Swing on the swings.  (The kids love swinging and enjoyed swinging with Momma, too.)
16.Feed the ducks.  (We didn't feed ducks, but Sophie and I did follow a mama duck and her 8 ducklings as they waddled from the church heading toward a pond.)
17.Make sidewalk chalk drawings. (04/03/2013)

18.Skip stones in a pond.
19.Listen to the rain. (04/03/2013)

20.Sit outside at a cafe.  (Didn't realize how scarce cafe's were, but my sister and I did enjoy dinner on a patio.)
21.Watch bumblebees at work.
22.Notice trees budding. (Sophie noticed them first, especially the one across the street with the white flowers.)
23.Spot a rainbow.
24.Listen to birds singing. (We've had a lot of birds because of the feeder in our front tree.)
25.Feel the sun on your face. (We had lots of sunny days and enjoyed the time outside.)
26.Go bare legged.  (I actually did this more than normal, choosing skirts over shorts.)
27.Leave your windows open to catch a spring breeze. (04/13/2013)

28.Pet a bunny. (05/08/2013)
29.Send someone other than your mom a Mother's Day card.  (I only did my mom and mother-in-law.)
30.Visit the zoo.
31.Play ball. (04/01/2013)

32.Go garage sale-ing. (04/06/2013)

2013 Summer Bucket List Challenge

The Happy Family Movement is hosting a challenge this summer and we are jumping on board.  I found out about the challenge while I was researching activities for our own bucket list.  Even though we are moving in June, I wanted to keep some kind of normalcy (if only for my own sanity).  I'm still working on the actual list but I worked on how I was going to display the list.
Pictures the kids colored

I used my Cricut to cut out these colorful buckets and white shovels.  I'm going to write each activity on a shovel then glue it to the bucket.  I'm going to clip each bucket to our art wall clothesline.  I'll add other items to the line throughout the summer (ticket stubs, flyers, maps, other memorabilia) like I did last year.  It will basically create a 3D scrapbook of the summer.  I'll leave it up until we actually move, then put it up right away at the new house.

In conjunction with this challenge, I'm also reading the ebook 100 Days of Summertime 2013.  Even though Logan George doesn't get out of school until June, I'm going to officially kick-off our summer fun this Sunday, May 26 and go until Labor Day.  I don't expect to do everything on our list and I have also been known to add to the list throughout the journey. (I also add completed items to my to-do list just so I can check them off.)  I may be setting myself up since I'll be spending the first part of summer packing and and then unpacking but I would rather be over-scheduled than have bored kids.  Let's all have a great summer!

Songkran Festival

Grandma Noi took us to the temple for the annual water festival.  The little girls dressed up in traditional Thai dresses that Noi had brought back from Thailand.

We ate lots of food, then had a parade with all the ladies dressed up.

There was traditional Thai music and dancing.  We used water that we poured on the monk's hands as some sort of blessing.  Everyone even sang Happy Birthday to Kaitlyn.

I wished I knew more about what all was going on but since the whole thing was in Thai, it was difficult.  I also worry that I'm doing something disrespectful whenever I'm around the monks.  But the kids don't really notice and had fun with each other playing under the trees.

Kaitlyn's 7th Birthday Party

We had a skating good time celebrating Kaitlyn's birthday at the roller rink.  They even had the skate helpers (in fact they had just gotten the night before).  Sophie even did the hokey pokey with Aunt Cheri.

Cheri's brother Chris hadn't skated in years but he got the hang of it.   He even managed to turn a fall into a front flip.  I wish I had gotten it on the camera, it was truly amazing.  Much better than my fall which resulted in a bruised knee and bee-hind.
